Most of us aren't extremely gifted like the painters Picasso and Renoir. Most of us don't automatically know what we're good at or what we want to do for the rest of our lives. In some ways, we're lucky because we have more career choices. However, too many choices can get us stuck in the decision-making process instead of getting on with a particular career.

One way to narrow choices is to take a look at what interests you. Your interests influence the decisions you make. For example, you choose a movie or magazine based on how much it interests you. You choose your friends because you share the same interests. Your interests also influence your career choices. For the following activity, you will need to have completed the Activities assessment on pages 4 and 5 in the Assessment Booklet. You will also need to read over the You And Your Career Booklet to understand what the codes mean. You will be reviewing these codes in a later unit. It's enough that you have a basic idea of their meaning.

Go to the booklet entitled ASSESSMENT BOOKLET
and complete the ACTIVITIES assessment
on pages 4 and 5 NOW.

You may complete the OCCUPATIONAL DAYDREAMS activity on page 3 at any time. You will not be required to do this activity.

Once you have finished the ACTIVITIES assessment, keep your booklet open to pages 4 and 5 and complete the activity. The results of this activity will be used again at the end of this unit.

Look only at the Like column for each of the six sections and at the TOTAL boxes in each section. Which of the six sections have the highest totals?

Now go through all of the activities you indicated in the Like column and select the five activities that most interest you from the entire assessment. You may end up choosing all five from one group. You're only deciding which activities you really enjoy doing.

After you've selected five, enter them in the blanks provided. You will revisit your five interests in the final activity of this unit. This is a required activity and is graded as complete/not complete.
